Digital Camera Repair Problem # 2 – Broken Lens
Digital camera lens repair are common as LCD repair, but is # 2 on my list because it is more difficult to repair and there are so many different types of lens problems where a broken LCD is broken LCD no matter how you look at it.
Here some basic tips to avoid breaking your lens:
– Do not leave batteries in your camera bag camera. The power button can be pressed accidentally causing the lens to expand and get jammed because it can not open well in the bag.
– Try not to drop the camera lens extended.
– Never pull twist or a lens is not working 100% properly, you just rest it.
I like to write a book to fully explain the problems quite lens (hmm.. probably a good idea) so I try and keep it simple and informative.
The lens is composed of many different parts … Let's start with some pieces of glass defined as the elements of the lens.
The external lens elements are easily captain of the disease being scratched and scuffed, and usually have a special coating on it that you DO NOT want to clean with isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol), or Windex or similar items. This is not the end of the world, and not worry about it if it is missing. Just keep the lens clean (why have your fingerprints lens still?) and scratch free.
The internal-most lens element is responsible for the fine-focus and address directly in front of the CCD. When you pressed the button shutter half way down to focus, this moving part forward and backward until in position and your image is in focus. You are not messing with section This lens … unless you want to remove from the lens of the camera and then tearing down the lens to get it is 'guts'. It's kinda fun for the first time, but uh … I want you luck in getting it back together properly. The tearing things apart is fun, putting it back together is a drag!
The lens has two small motors on their own gears connect the two main parts of the lens. The larger motor drives the lens barrel and out when zoom. The smaller motor drives the elements of fine focus mentioned above and control the focus. If you get One grain of sand in the gears, they time and the lens is "error out "as we want to say. Open it and clean it if you like, but it is not easy. Often the main motor of the lens has 5-6 different gears to be set and aligned to work properly. But hey, your lens is jammed, why not see how it works, right?
Then there is the CCD, charge-coupled device "which translates the light entering the lens signal to a digital camera can record.
There was a huge recall by CCD Sony the past few years covering many manufacturers and not just Sony, as Sony provided the CCDs in many others for their cameras. The defective CCD's due to camera with a solid black image, or senior person / pink "paint big" picture, or they repeatedly white horizontal or verticle lines in the image. If your camera has, call the manufacturer and tell them you want a repair under the CCD recall no matter how old your camera is! IF this list, You Can get your camera repaired for free.
There are spots in your images to get bigger and smaller as you zoom in and out? Most likely that spec of dust on your CCD. You must remove the lens and then remove the CCD from behind the lens and clean it off. Do not lose the gasket that goes around the CCD, not get any more dirt in the lens and not leave any fingerprints! Height to determine I, we, I'm demanding. =)
Let's see … what else? Your lens is part way out, stuck in an angle because the camera was dropped while open. Now, please read carefully; lens to be arrogant part way or all the way, and one section of the lens MUST be stuck in an angle. The lens should not move freely participate in all for this section to apply, and you can follow this advice at your own risk. The following repair trick work, but I'm not repsonsible for your actions or anything do with your camera.
Ok, it is stuck in an angle. Hold the camera angled portion of the lens resting against the side of a table, and the rest of the camera dangling on the side. Do not place the camera facing down to "Canon Zoom Lens …" chrome ring section flat on the table. The rounded edge of the lens should be if what makes contact here. Now … here is the tricky part … press the angled portion of the lens back to the alignment of the lens pushing down the side of the table. Put your finger in the lens below the angled part to support them and press firmly but gently (how do I do that? do not know .. you just do it) and the lens is either POP! return to the workplace and flawless or not this move and no damage is done,-O-one of the guide Pins "to run in a small track on the lens barrel is only tear and you will destroy the lens.
I said it is on your own risk! Camera repair is fun … right?
