France honors Kylie
It is official, as if anyone has any doubts. The Australian singer of pop, Kylie Minogue, now a cultural icon, at least as the French are concerned.
On Monday, Minogue became a chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) in a ceremony chaired by French Culture Minister Christine Albanel.
In bestowing the honor of the singer Albanel proved her pop and fashion credentials by proclaiming Minogue wise that the "princess of pop and undisputed queen of the dance floor that had a Midas touch on the international music scene and everything he touched turned to gold – from records to micro-shorts. "
He also praised Minogue's decision to make public three years the past after receiving the diagnosis had breast cancer.
"So," Albanel said the 39-year-old singer. "It has increased public awareness.
"The doctors even go so far as to describe a 'Kylie effect' that encourages young women to go for regular checkups, added.
L'Ordre des Arts et Lettres was established in 1963 to recognize significant contributions to the arts and literature – not just in France but also worldwide.
Minogue now joining the Ranks of an eclectic mix of other beneficiaries of foreign notables, among others, TS Eliot, Allen Ginsberg, Bob Dylan, Ella Fitzgerald, Clint Eastwood, Sharon Stone and Jude Law.
Minogue, a former soap star turned singer is more than 30 hits for the past two decades, started his world tour in Paris on Tuesday.
